Racer Profile: Kayla Wall

The Burnout Queen Who’s Making Her Mark in Motorsport

Kayla Wall’s journey into the thrilling world of motorsport is one that couldn’t be more authentic. Growing up surrounded by the roar of engines and the rush of speed, it’s no surprise that Kayla would eventually find her place in the world of burnouts and drag racing. A fourth-generation motorsport enthusiast, Kayla didn’t just inherit her love for the sport – she took it to the next level.

After starting as a volunteer 10 years ago, Kayla’s entry into competitive racing was inevitable. Five years later, her partner built her a car, propelling her into the world of competitive burnout driving. Since then, she’s made waves in the sport, earning a solid reputation in both the Ladies and 6-cylinder categories.

For Kayla, the love for motorsport isn’t just about the thrill of racing – it’s about the community. “The adrenaline and the friends you make along the way become family within the sport,” she says. With a schedule packed with races across Queensland and even the Northern Territory, Kayla has a fierce passion for the sport that drives her to compete as much as possible.

Though her friends and family may think she’s “mad” for racing, Kayla’s journey has been met with nothing but support. “I was brought up around motorsports, so it was always going to happen,” she laughs, describing how her circle not only understands her passion but shares it with her.

Kayla’s aspirations in the sport are simple, yet ambitious: she wants to travel more, continue growing in the sport, and – one day – place in the 6-cylinder class. Her competitive spirit is evident, and her accomplishments are certainly something to be proud of.

Some of her personal achievements include competing in Redcenter Nats in the Northern Territory, securing 1st place in the Ladies class and Top 10 in both Ladies and 6-cylinder classes at Sugarcity Powerfest 2024, and claiming 2nd and 3rd places in the Ladies class at Sugarcity Powerfest in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

Kayla’s support system is nothing short of amazing. Her biggest cheerleader is her partner, who not only supports her racing efforts but also helps fix and maintain her car. The car itself is a Ford Falcon sedan with a supercharged Barra motor, built from the ground up by her partner to help her compete in the burnout world.

Kayla’s sponsorships – from Auspeed Dyno Tuning, Proximity Motorsports, and S&WE Designs – also play a crucial role in enabling her to compete, along with the organisers of the events she participates in.

When asked about advice for those wanting to follow in her footsteps, Kayla keeps it real. “You don’t need a high-performance car to get into the sport. Start with a simple standard car with a couple of safety mods and just go out and enjoy yourself. Have fun with it!” This approachable and grounded advice is one of the reasons Kayla resonates so well with aspiring racers.

Kayla’s story is more than just about her success on the track – it’s about the community, the fun, and the sheer determination that fuels her racing journey. With her eyes set on the future, Kayla Wall is not just a competitor – she’s an inspiration for women in motorsports.
